The Five Sisters Zoo is located in West Calder, Scotland. It was established in 2005 by Shirley and Brian Curran, who originally had a garden center in the area that is now the zoo. The zoo is named after the Five Sisters Shale Bings, which are a local landmark and scheduled monument located a mile to the west of the village.
The bings rise to a height of 720 feet (220 m), some 230 feet (70 m) above the surrounding area, and are the spoil tips from the oil shale industry that was a feature of the area. The zoo is home to over 160 different species from around the world, including Scotland’s only cheetah
Five Sisters Zoo also participates in national and international breeding programmes and EEPs for several species, such as red pandas, Eurasian lynx, and ring-tailed lemurs
